Northrise University in Zambia
Expands Reach and Impact

Mark and Trish Van Mourick
Invited to Join Board of Trustees

September 2012

Dana Point, Calif. –  The Northrise University has revealed plans to develop their growing Ndola campus facilities with the addition of buildings for faculty and student housing, a Student Center, a School of Agriculture and School of Theology. As members of the Trustee Board, Mark and Trish Van Mourick will assist with the capital campaign to raise funds for the next phases of construction and expansion. The Optivest Foundation views this partnership as an occasion to employ the Southern California network of corporate and individual philanthropists to share in this educational investment opportunity, as well as to contribute to an area of Africa that has captured the heart of the Optivest, Inc. family.

The 400 students currently enrolled at Northrise can choose from over a dozen bachelor degree programs ranging from Finance and Accounting to Theology, and have the opportunity to advance to such degrees as a Masters in Business Administration. These expansions will continue to place Northrise as the front runner of higher education in Zambia, while exemplifying best practices for neighboring developing nations.

With more than 87% of the population in Zambia living on less than $2 a day and 50% unemployment, education is a key to lifting this crippled nation from poverty and illness.  And with nearly half the population under the age of 15, Northrise University seeks to provide hope to a generation of young Zambians for roles in leadership, ministry and business.  Located in Ndola, Zambia, a country surrounded by eight other African countries, NU has a unique opportunity to impact not only its own nation, but their neighbors as well.

About the University: Founded in 2004, Northrise University was established to transform the lives of its students through a Christ-centered education so they can help improve the lives of others and collectively change their nation.
